Enterprise Themed Programmes

All courses at Ardroy fit the enterprise education brief to a greater or lesser degree. This theme will focus specifically on the Foundation Life Skills enterprising young people require in order to achieve their dreams and ambitions. These are:-

  • Risk Taking
  • Problem Solving
  • Creative Thinking
  • Leadership
  • Working with Others
  • Communication
  • Decision Making
  • Planning
  • Reviewing
  • Negotiation
  • Presentation Skills
  • Sustainability

The application of these skills throughout the programme will be both facilitated and reviewed. Risk awareness, recognition and reduction, together with planning and decision making, will be developed in the outdoors. The week culminates in our flagship “Lost at Sea” scenario, which draws together all the strands of enterprise education developed earlier. Students will be encouraged to reflect on their learning through the completion of an Enterprise Workbook.

In “Lost at Sea”, students are presented with a scenario where they are marooned on a desert island with limited resources after their ship has sunk. They have to carry out tasks for the island dwellers to gain keys -one key opens a box containing a rescue flare. The island dwellers present the group with a series of challenges based around existing activities. The group will need to purchase equipment from the islanders, as well as wisely using items which they saved from their doomed ship. The ownership and outcomes thereof of these challenges is very much left to the group, with instructors facilitating the reviewing afterwards. Please see our download menu to access an article on “Lost at Sea” and also the Countdown packs which provide vital preparation prior to coming to Ardroy.
